CNS is a neutron logging sonde for formation porosity.CNS contains an americium-beryllium (AmBe) source that bombards the formation with fast neutrons. These neutrons collide with nuclei of the formation materials. They are slowed down by successive collisions to thermal velocities. The thermal neutron density in the vicinity of ***ectors is mainly related to the hydrogen index of the surrounding medium. The ratio of counting rates from two He3 ***ectors is processed to produce neutron porosity. Compensated neutron log can be used to calculate formation porosity, identify lithology and gas zones.
